It was the third time the sides have locked horns this season after their clashes in National Three South West, where they are level on points competing for a play-off place.

But, perhaps with one eye on their league campaigns, both teams opted to rest their first-team squads and give opportunities to players outside the regular starting line-ups.

In a physical contest, Rams, who were defending the cup, went ahead after 10 minutes when hooker Mike Fisher crossed for an unconverted try.

However, that was to be the visitors’ only score of the half as Bracknell replied with two tries from the excellent Yates.

That was supported by some great kicking from Andy Slade, including a brilliant drop goal, as the home side went in 20-5 ahead at the interval.

Rams, now playing down the slope, enjoyed more possession and territory in the second period but only managed a lone penalty for their efforts.

Bracknell, however, lost their hooker to injury and, for the remainder, scrums went uncontested as the hosts grabbed the only try of the half from centre Nathan Mannering.

Bracknell will face Maidenhead in the final.

Meanwhile, four Bracknell teams are at home this Saturday, including the 1sts, who entertain Chippenham in the league (2.15pm ko).
