BRACKNELL Under 18s failed to hit the heights but managed to grind out a 24-8 victory at Redingensians on Sunday.

The visitors began well and opened the scoring when the impressively physical Josh Knight used his power to crash through his former teammates.

However, Bracknell – fresh from reaching the quarter finals of the National Cup seven days before – were not at their best, and by 14 minutes a try and penalty for Redingensians had the home side 8-5 in front.

Bracknell came back immediately, though, keeping the ball alive and changing the point of attack effectively, allowing the electric Ally Walton to pierce the defence for his side’s second score.

The visitors moved further ahead in the 28th minute when Luke Fisher collected a Rams kick and raced to the try line.

Jake Finley’s excellent touchline conversion meant Bracknell led 17-8 at the interval.

The second half began with Redingensians looking the better side, but they failed to turn pressure into points, despite Bracknell’s penalty count being higher than usual.

And it was Daniel Ap Dafydd’s Lily Hill men who extended their lead with what turned out to be the final points of the game on 50 minutes.

Matan Sayegh reacted quickest to a loose ball in the midfield, and seeing the Rams defenders melt away, accelerated through the gap and won the sprint to the line.

Patrick Fitzgerald converted to push Bracknell 16 points in front.

The remainder of the contest proved to be an end-to-end contest, but neither side could add to their tally and Bracknell left with the bonus point.

l BRACKNELL RFC return to National Three London & South East action this coming Saturday when they travel to rock bottom Eton Manor (3pm).

The hosts are yet to win this season and lost 18-3 at Lily Hill Park earlier in the campaign.
