It was Moles’ heaviest defeat of the season in any competition after Roger Herridge’s men suffered a night to forget.

However, all is not lost for Binfield who remain in three other cup competitions – the Hellenic Challenge Cup, the Hellenic Floodlit Cup and the Reading Senior Cup.

Unfortunately, Tuesday’s clash at United Counties League outfit Newport Pagnell proved to be a step too far.

The Moles got off to a disastrous start and fell behind after just five minutes when Dan Weait parried a shot straight into the path of Ben Shepherd who fired into the net.

Binfield, though, fought back strongly and gave as good as they got for the remainder of the first half.

They were also unlucky not to win a penalty when a Newport Pagnell player appeared to block a corner with his hand.

James Connor also saw a powerful header tipped around the corner by the home keeper.

But to sum of Binfield’s luck, Connor was injured in the incident and left the field soon after.

Moles looked their most threatening when they were pumping crosses into the box – a tactic the home side struggled to deal with.

And from one such cross Ian Davies was an inch away from deflecting Josh Pearson’s effort into the goal shortly before the interval.

However, Binfield’s task was made more difficult when they conceded three more goals in six minutes early in the second half.

This time it was their failure to deal with a cross which allowed Dom Lawless to head past Weait to double Newport’s lead in the 48th minute.

A missed tackle by Binfield then allowed Lawless to score again three minutes later for his second of the night.

And Moles’ misery was compounded in the 54th minute when Josh Crawley smashed the ball home after the visitors could only half clear a corner kick.

To their credit, Binfield refused to give up – but this wasn’t to be their night.

They even spurned the chance to pull one back on the hour when Davies won a penalty -– only to see his spot-kick saved as Newport Pagnell held on to a clean sheet.

Newport Pagnell will now play Windsor FC - who thrashed Highmoor Ibis 5-0 on Tuesday – in the semi finals.

Binfield, meanwhile, return to Hellenic Premier League action this Saturday when they visit rivals Ascot United (3pm ko).

Elsewhere, Bracknell Town FC return to Hellenic Premier League action this Saturday when they visit struggling Shrivenham (3pm ko).

Bracknell lost 5-0 at Binfield’s Hill Farm Lane in the league last Saturday. Callum Whitty, Adam Dickens and Jemel Johnson put Binfield in command before substitute Josh Pearson added a late brace to put the gloss on the scoreline.

BINFIELD’S Adam Dickens has joined Southern Premier side Burnham FC until the end of the season.

Dickens joins ex-Binfield striker Carl Davies at the Blues. SEE TODAY'S BRACKNELL NEWS FOR THE BEST FOOTBALL COVERAGE
