Roger Herridge’s Moles were playing uphill and into a strong wind in the first half, butwith Seb Bowerman’s direct running especially dangerous, Binfield made light of the conditions and were ahead inside eight minutes. Josh Pearson’s fierce shot found the net from 12 yards, after Dickens’ header set Bowerman free to run into the penalty area and pull back for the goalscorer.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0, with Bowerman again the provider. Spotting Josh Howell in space in the middle just outside the penalty area, Bowerman’s floated cross was met perfectly by Howell’s cleverly lobbed volley over the home keeper and into the empty net.

And by half time it was 3-0. Just after half an hour, Howell turned provider, outpacing his full back and hitting a perfect pass for Dickens to finish firmly at the near post.

Shrivenham certainly had their chances, but will be disappointed that from half a dozen shots, Dan Weait was only forced into one save.

The second half turned into a more even affair as Shrivenham improved and the Moles changed their shape as Jemel Johnson replaced Alex Walton and Howell dropped into right back.

But the Moles continued to make chances and, after Pearson had seen a shot well saved, Dickens’ attempted lob was tipped over. From the resulting corner, Bowerman’s wind assisted cross deceived everyone and found its way in at the near post for 4-0.

Later, Gary Callaway was replaced by Aaron Rowland and Callum Whitty dropped into the defence, and the hosts enjoyed their best spell, scoring at the near post, shortly after Binfield had cleared off the line.

With 10 minutes remaining, Binfield were four ahead again, when another left wing corner deceived the home defence and Dickens was first to reach the ball with his far post header hitting the net.

Shrivenham added their second shortly before the final whistle, but the Moles had done enough to progress and will host Lydney Town in the quarter finals of this competition.

Binfield were due to play their BBFA Senior Trophy quarter final at Newport Pagnell Town last night (Tuesday).
