The Moles had taken one point from six in the last week before running out 3-0 winners in the league at Newbury and advancing in the Flying Press Floodlit Cup with a 4-2 win at home to Abingdon.

And Binfield boss Roger Herridge was delighted with the response from his players.

“I asked questions of them after last week’s draw at Wootton Bassett,” he said. “They’ve responded in the best possible manner which is extremely encouraging for me.

“They produced a fantastic performance at Newbury and then did well against a strong Abingdon side.” The Moles sit third in Hellenic Premier Division, five points off the top having played more games than everyone around them.

Binfield welcome promotion contenders Flackwell Heath to Hill Farm Lane on Saturday, which starts a spell of three home games over the festive period.

Herridge admits it will be tough but believes if his side can take nine points from nine then they’ll be in the race come January.

“We’re a bit off the pace at the moment,” he added. “It’s a competetive league and Flackwell are still the favourites for me.

“There’s 13 games left and if we win them all then we will be up there. It’s a tough ask but if we can get all our players back fit then you never know.

“I’ve been here for 22 games and we’ve lost just four. Teams don’t like having to play us.” Binfield went ahead against Abingdon after just a minute when Adam Dickens fired home a rebound after Josh Howell’s shot was parried by Lee Farrow.

It was the perfect start for Binfield but they couldn’t build on it and the visitors had a lot of possession, eventually equalising when Anaclet Odhiambo fired home from inside the box.

Moments later and Odhiambo did it again, netting from close range to put Abingdon 2-1 ahead.

They were good value for their lead at half-time but Binfield stepped up a level in the second-half to tear their opponents apart with some slick, quick passing.

Howell drilled the ball home at the near post after less than a minute of the restart before Dickens finished past Farrow after a great ball from Jemal Johnson in the 49th minute.

The goals gave the home side the confidence to express themselves and they were starting to dominate a tiring Abingdon side.

Seb Bowerman was instrumental throughout and another driving run saw him take several defenders out of the game before squaring to Howell who curled the ball home to seal victory for the Moles.

The win followed on from an excellent performance at Newbury on Saturday as the Moles got their title challenge back on track with a comprehensive 3-0 win.

It was a lightning start from Herridge’s side that gave them the win as they cruised to a 3-0 lead within 28 minutes.

Carl Withers broke the deadlock in the ninth minute as he smashed home from close range following Dave Woozley’s knock down.

Woozley was again the creator in the 18th minute as he headed the ball to Howell who chested it down and struck a sweet volley past the home goalkeeer.

Ten minutes later and it was game over as Johnson capitalised on poor defending to lob the advancing keeper.

From there on in it was comfortable for Moles and they were never in danger of conceding the lead as they produced a professional performance to see the game out.

Moles host Flackwell Heath on Saturday (3pm) at Hill Farm Lane.
