The Fizzers were the most lively out of the blocks at Bottom Meadow with Ayden Richards testing Lammas keeper Liam Stone early on.

Staines gradually got into the game and Fizzers keeper Billy Bryce was in good form pulling off two fine saves to deny Kai Francis.

Both sides continued to enjoy good spells in the first half playing attractive football, with honours even at half time.

Sandhurst started the second half well and their pressure finally paid on 60 minutes when Lammas defender Dan Lucas handled the ball in the area. The resulting penalty had to be taken three times after Lammas keeper Liam Stone was adjudged to have been off his line on the first two occasions, but eventually Richards fired home from the spot.

The Fizzers dominated the remainder of the game and a bad day for Staines was complete when Dominic Worthington was sent off for a second yellow card in the 85th minute.

New Fizzers boss Chris Powell praised his team but warned them not to get ahead of themselves.

He said: “It was a good result and a valuable three points but it is far too early to get carried away. The team has shaped up well during the pre-season with a number of new additions and getting the balance right between youth and experience”.

Town Chairman Tony Dean added he was “really pleased with the result”.

He beamed: “This provides a welcome early boost and is just reward for the new management team’s well organised and quality pre-season schedule and selective signings.” The Fizzers are at home again on Saturday when they entertain Chessington & Hook United, who are playing their first season in Division One having been relegated last season (3pm ko).

EVERSLEY & California FC were also victorious following a 2-0 home triumph against CB Hounslow United.

The Boars will look to continue their promising start as they travel to Banstead Athletic on Saturday (3pm ko).
