ASCOT United suffered another frustrating day on Saturday when they crashed 5-0 at Ardley.

Once again, the Yellamen were forced to field a patched-up side with numerous players not available for various reasons.

With their regular midfielders missing, manager Jeff Lamb had to name himself in the middle, while his assistant, Paul McGrotty, was one of only two substitutes as Ascot looked to follow up their 2-1 victory at Brackley Town Saints in midweek, They held Ardley at bay until the 32nd minute when Leam Howards raced through to beat keeper Carl Dennison.

Ascot finally forged a half chance after 40 minutes when Jason Sheehan scuffed his effort wide, but that was as good as the first half got for the visitors before half-time.

They started the second half brightly, but fell behind on 50 minutes through Reece Bayliss.

Bradley Cox headed home a third on 57 minutes with Bayliss netting again eight minutes later and Jack Heap making it 5-0 with 15 minutes remaining.

Ascot’s Dave Hoar’s effort was tipped over in injury time as the Yellamen finally mustered a shot on target.

Their fifth defeat in 11 league games leaves them ninth in the table with 18 points. In addition to many players, United’s physio Natalie Stearn has left the club to link up with league rivals Thatcham.
