HOME side Sandhurst Town were left frustrated after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wokingham & Emmbrook in their Division One East encounter on Saturday, writes Richard Ashton.

The Fizzers dominated the first half at Bottom Meadow and took a deserved lead through Conor Harlowe, only for Craig Haylett to earn the Sumas a share of the spoils with his second-half strike.

However, Sandhurst recorded their first victory of the season with a 3-1 triumph at Didcot Town Reserves on Monday.

Naerger Jack gave Luke Turkington’s side a 17th-minute lead, although the hosts equalised just a minute into the second period courtesy of Prince Basanti’s effort.

The Fizzers kept their composure, though, and further goals from Carl Lucas and Richard Steel ensured they took all three points away with them.

Sandhurst Town are due to host Woodley United in the Floodlit Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Wokingham & Emmbrook’s up-and-down start to the season continued as they lost 3-1 at Holyport on Monday.

Sumas – who were relegated from the Premier Division last season – fell behind to Nathan Shamuyarira’s second-minute strike, and although they bossed the remainder of the first half, wasted chances meant they went in trailing 1-0.

Holyport doubled their lead early in the second period and went on to make it 3-0 when they hit the visitors on the break.

Wokingham were the better side throughout but all they had to show for their efforts was a late Sam Lawrence consolation.

Sumas are now ninth in the table with four points from their first four games, and travel to Rayners Lane on Saturday.

  • FINCHAMPSTEAD took three points from the weekend, comfortably beating Wantage Town Reserves 4-1 on Saturday before receiving a sobering 3-0 defeat at Penn & Tylers Green on Monday.

Sam Green, Matt Lambert, Harry Swabey and James Wright were all on the scoresheet at Wantage, although the Bank Holiday defeat leaves Finch 11th in the table.

Finchampstead visit Headington Amateurs in the Challenge Cup this Saturday (3pm).
