WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook reached the quarter finals of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup with a 3-1 victory at Moreton Rangers, writes Richard Ashton.

Sumas dominated the early exchanges with Luke Scope in particular proving a handful for the home side’s defence, but it was Moreton who scored against the run of play to lead 1-0 at the break.

Wokingham deservedly levelled when Scope pulled the ball back to Elliott Rushforth, and he drove it into the back of the net from the edge of the area.
Dan Bateman and Matt Eggleston’s side then went in front when Josh Pearson’s free-kick was parried and Blake Stewart followed up to steer the rebound home.

Wokingham sealed victory when substitute Jack Herridge sent a superb diagonal pass through to Rushforth, who controlled well and finished with aplomb.

Wokingham & Emmbrook host Stokenchurch in the last eight on Saturday (3pm), having previously welcomed Highmoor Ibis to The Triangle in the Hellenic League Premier Division last night (Tuesday).

Sumas then visit Thame United in the league next Tuesday (7.45pm).

FINCHAMPSTEAD'S Hellenic League Division One East game against Chalfont Wasps was postponed on Saturday.

Jon Laugharne’s men were due to visit Chinnor last night (Tuesday).

EVERSLEY & California's Combined Counties League Division One title hopes were dealt a blow after they conceded a late goal in a 2-1 defeat at home to Ash United.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the third minute before Brad Brown levelled almost immediately for the Boars.

The two sides continued to chase a winning goal but it was the visitors who achieved it in the 86th minute, leaving Eversley & California fifth in the table.
The Boars are nine points behind leaders CB Hounslow United, although they have two games in hand on the table-toppers.

Eversley & California travel to Dorking Wanderers Reserves this coming Saturday (3pm).

SANDHURST Town suffered two heavy Combined Counties League Division One defeats in the space of five days.

The Fizzers were thumped 5-1 at Dorking on Saturday, having previously lost 3-0 at home to Bedfont & Feltham on Tuesday of last week.

Sandhurst fell behind on 25 minutes at Dorking when Martin Smith finished coolly, and they extended their lead courtesy of Glen Wright’s quick-fire double early in the second half.

The goalscorer turned provider for Leroy Hyett to make it 4-0, before Tom Churchill-Cooper grabbed a consolation.

Dorking had the final word, however, when Dan Bransbury used his pace to out-run the defence before firing home in style.

The two defeats leave Sandhurst 12th in the table.
