ASCOT United’s winless streak in all competitions extended to three matches after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Milton United.

Yellamen had been in sensational form thanks to eight wins in a nine-match unbeaten run.

But Jeff Lamb’s men failed to win for the third match in a row on Saturday which followed their defeat by Camberley Town in an FA Vase third-round replay last week.

The Hellenic Premier draw against an improving Milton was that much more frustrating for Ascot given they blew a two-goal lead against a team they were strongly fancied to brush aside, having won the away fixture 2-0 in September thanks to a David Pitt brace.

But the hosts found Milton keeper Craig Griffiths in inspired form on Saturday and had to

settle for a point.

Bradley Fraser and Pitt both threatened early on, but Milton almost snatched the lead when Niall Hodgson fired narrowly wide.

However, Ascot went ahead on 13 minutes when Fraser found Joe Grant who raced clear before firing past Griffiths into the far corner.

And it looked like being a walk in the park for the hosts when they doubled their lead seven

minutes later.

Fraser whipped over an inch-perfect cross from the right and Jessie Wilson directed a firm header past Griffiths.

Griffiths though soon became a thorn in Ascot’s side after denying both Fraser and Pitt in quick succession.

Seb Costello replaced Fraser on the hour and quickly set up another chance for Pitt, but again

Griffiths was equal to his shot.

Lamb’s men would soon regret failing to add a third goal from the string of chances they created as Milton pulled a goal back on 68 minutes when Adam Bruce

slotted past Chris Grace.

The visitors, now full of confidence, almost levelled when Bruce was an inch away from converted a Jos Beech cross, though Griffiths was also forced

into another smart save to deny Adam Cashin-Murray at the other end.

And they did equalise with three minutes to go when Ascot failed to halt Daniele Piscopo’s mazy run before he set up Hodson, whose deflected effort flew past Grace.

Yellamen almost grabbed a winner at the death when Jamie West’s diving header narrowly missed the target, but Milton held on to secure a point and leave Ascot cursing a host of missed

opportunities.

Ascot travel to Bracknell Town this Sunday (3pm).
