WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook conceded a 96th-minute winner as they suffered a heart-breaking 3-2 defeat at Longlevens in their Hellenic League Premier Division encounter.
Sumas dominated the first half and Josh Pearson hit the bar with a curling left-footed effort, but they did take a deserved lead through Sam Bateman on 30 minutes.
Five minutes before the break Elliott Rushforth was denied a penalty when he nicked the ball away from a Longlevens defender and appeared to have been fouled, but the referee gave a free-kick the other way as he thought Rushforth had raised his foot.
Longlevens then struck the bar but basement boys Wokingham & Emmbrook maintained their lead at half time.
The home side enjoyed a 20-minute purple patch at the start of the second half and drew level through Craig Martin before going in front thanks to Bradley Martin.
Sumas goalkeeper Sean Woodward made a couple of outstanding saves before his side fought their way back into the contest, and Jake Butler climbed highest at a corner but his far-post header was cleared off the line.
However, the visitors managed to snatch an equaliser in the final minute, a through ball from the hard-working Dan Collier finding Rushforth who calmly curled his shot home.
The referee then added six minutes , though, and this resulted in an end-to-end conclusion as both sides hunted a winner.
After Ben Broadhurst brought down a Longlevens winger the referee had no alternative but to show a second yellow card, and the resulting free-kick was perfectly driven to the far post where Ellis Sausman’s volley from five yards out broke Sumas hearts.
Wokingham & Emmbrook host Abingdon United this coming Saturday (3pm).
