Manager Roger Herridge was left with doubts in own mind whether he had made the right decision over a tactical move as his Binfield FC side slumped to a 5-0 defeat at Kidlngton on Saturday.

With the Moles 2-0 down with 35 minutes remaining, Herridge took off midfielder Chris Dean – who was later named their player of the match – and replaced him with striker Brad Brown.

But, instead of seeing his side up their attacks, he could only look on as Kidlington took control of midfield and score three more times to inflict one of Binfield's biggest defeats in recent seasons.

He later admitted in a tweet: “I twisted when others would have stuck (but) hindsight is a wonderful thing.”

Herridge explained: “I changed it to 4-4-2 (from 4-2-3-1) in bid to try and get back in the game and have a go, but it didn't work.

But that's decision making. At times I make decisions that come off, at other times I make decisions and we get thumped.

“Today we got thumped, so I have to take responsibility for that, but I have to admit we were up against a very good team.”

For quite some time however, Binfield played well against a side who have yet to lose at home this season.

Herridge added: “I thought we were well in the game for an hour. We had three or four really good chances in the first half but we didn't take them.

“We had a great chance at the start of the second half and if we had taken that it would have been one all, and who knows it might have become a different game after that.

"If key moments during a game sometimes go your way you go on to get a result, but if they don't then the result can go against you. And that is largely what happened here.

“They broke away to score a really good second goal. I was certainly disappointed with the way we ended the game.

“We have been punished today and it's the first time it has happened this season, but there will be better and more experienced teams than ourselves who will get beaten here (at Kidlington).”

Herridge continued: “No-one likes being on the end of a stuffing and the lads in the dressing room feeling very disappointed.

“Some are young lads and we will see what character these boys have got. But I am sure we will all pick ourselves up.

"The great thing about this league is that you don't have to wait too long before your next game and hopefully we will get a reaction and go from there.”

Binfield were due to visit Premier Division rivals Abingdon United last night in the first round of the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy.

They then take on Highmoor Ibis at Hill Farm Lane in a league game this Saturday (3pm).
