BRACKNELL Town FC ended their miserable run in the FA Vase with a 1-0 victory against Hook Norton in the first qualifying round on Saturday.

The Robins had lost their previous five fixtures in the tournament but a solitary goal from in-form striker Shane Cooper-Clark was enough to break their Vase jinx.

It was a game of limited chances, particularly in the first half when neither goalkeeper was really tested.

Hooky saw Dan Weston head over the bar early on then their skipper, Joe Eyre, shot straight at Robins keeper Garry Aulsberry.

Eyre also curled a 25-yarder narrowly wide as the visitors pressed forward.

But Robins created the best opportunity of the first half when Martin Bradshaw blazed over from a tight angle before a Cooper-Clark effort was comfortably saved by Kurt Fox.

Robins carried that confidence forwad and Ebenezer Opoku-Ware was next to go close after the restart.

But Hooky also raised their game and Aulsberry had to be at his best to deny Dan Reeves twice.

However, the visitors also relied on some superb defending by the impressive Stevie Howkins to prevent Cooper-Clark from converting.

At that stage it was clear one goal would settle the tie – and it was the in-form Cooper-Clark who grabbed it with five minutes left on the clock.

The Robins striker got the better of Howkins before rifling a left-footed drive into the far corner for his eighth goal of the season.

Bracknell’s reward is a trip to Wessex League Division One outfit Alton Town in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday, October 3. Alton received a bye in the first qualifying round.

Meanwhile, Robins were due to host Rayners Lane in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup at Larges Lane last night (Tuesday).

This Saturday they travel to Shortwood United in the FA Cup first qualifying round (3pm) and then go to Milton United in the Hellenic Premier next Tuesday (7.45pm).
