DREAMS really did come true at Royal Ascot Cricket Club on Monday when Ascot players took on an England legends side led by Michael Vaughan.
It was certainly a day to remember for everyone at the club as nearly 1,000 people packed out the Ascot Heath ground to watch the likes of Mark Ramprakash, Devon Malcolm and Phil De Freitas playing the Ascot first XI in NatWest's locals versus legends match.
Ascot won the nationwide competition to host the T20 game designed to raise vital funds for the club.
Ascot's captain Nick Sweetman told the News: "It's a dream come true to play cricket against people I grew up watching and who were my heroes.
"This sort of thing doesn't happen so for it to happen to us is great.
"I've been looking forward to it for weeks and it's really lived up to the expectations - the legends are great, big crowd, lovely sunny day - it couldn't be better.
"It's probably the proudest day of my cricket career at Ascot." * FOR A FULL REPORT AND PICTURES PICK UP A COPY OF THIS WEEK'S NEWS.
