ARCHIE Carter believes Wokingham CC are good enough to stay top of the Thames Valley Cricket League, writes Dave Wright.

The Oaks moved 12 points clear in Division One after their excellent six-wicket victory at Gerrards Cross on Saturday.

Player-coach Danny Housego hammered an unbeaten 113, with Carter contributing 60 and Michael Bates 51 in a total of 274-4.

“The whole team is playing well,” said 16-year-old Carter.

“We are on a winning run and I think we are good enough to stay top of the table.”

Carter and Housego put on 115 for the third wicket as Wokingham chased down the home side’s 271 to secure their fourth successive win and their sixth in eight games.

That partnership particularly pleased the Forest School pupil as he is coached by the former Gloucestershire, Middlesex and Berkshire player.

“I am learning a lot from Danny and it’s good to have him at the other end when I am batting. He helps me a lot,” added Carter.

The former Emmbrook & Bearwood star is on Middlesex’s books and is hoping to play for their second team during the school holidays. He had to turn down an opportunity to play this week because of school commitments.

Carter is a regular member of the Berkshire second/academy squad and scored 49 out of their total of 191-8 as they defeated Oxfordshire 2nds by two wickets with two balls to spare at Abingdon Vale on Sunday.

“I would like to have gone on to make more, but I am happy with my two scores and, even better, we won both games,” he said.
