HOME Counties Premier League Division One champions Finchampstead rounded off their memorable season with a seven-run Duckworth/Lewis victory at Harefield.

The hosts elected to bat but suffered an immediate setback when Jack Shiel edged Jandre Coetzee to Sukhi Kang in the first over.

The same bowler then cleaned up Scott Friend to make it 14-2, before Daniel Ogden counter-attacked to good effect.

Matt Carter removed George Shiel before Coetzee (3-48) trapped Jalpesh Vijay lbw for his 58th wicket of a sensational campaign.

Ogden (77) and Dhavalkumar Norotam (54) put on a sparkling 112-run stand for the fifth wicket which was ended when the former was caught behind off young leg spinner Max Stevenson.

Norotam then edged behind off the returning Carter and Stevenson (5-42) ran through the lower order – aided by one outstanding catch in the deep by Billy Rogers to remove Robert Tidey – as Harefield were dismissed for 229 in 46 overs.

The visitors endured a terrible start to the run chase as the previous week’s double centurion Andrew House was magnificently caught at deep extra cover by Jordan McLeod off the bowling of Doug King.

The fielder then made another breakthrough with the ball by accounting for Andy Rishton, and when he had acting captain Matt Jones caught by King, Finch were wobbling on 13-3.

Things got worse when Rogers fell to Thomas Crick with the score on 36, but Adam Dewes (36no) and Dan Lincoln rebuilt the innings well.

Lincoln in particular accelerated on route to making an unbeaten 50 from just 33 balls – including eight 4s and three 6s –which helped push Finchampstead ahead of the D/L target.

When the rain became too persistent, the visitors had reached 113-4 after 20.5 overs, seven ahead of where they needed to be to complete a wonderful summer with a 13th victory in 14 completed games.

In Division 2a of the Thames Valley League, champions Finchampstead 2nds looked well set to beat runners-up North Maidenhead when their game was abandoned due to rain.

Spinners JJ Dewes (4-44) and James Woodford (3-7) did the damage as North Maids were dismissed for 124, and Finch reached 85-4 – Gary Loveday top scoring with 38 not out – when the game was called off.

Tommie Predgen made 61 for fourth-placed Finchampstead 3rds (219-6) before their Division 3a game with Cove 2nds was abandoned.

Division 7a champions Finchampstead 4ths were bowled out for 196 at Maidenhead & Bray 3rds, Chris Ward racking up 83. The game was called off with the hosts 29-0.

Finchampstead 5ths (67-4) had to settle for the runners-up spot in Division 9a after their game with Newbury 3rds (280-6) was halted by the weather with the visitors on top.
