BRACKNELL Town manager Mark Tallentire said his players are prepared to “go that extra mile” in order to clinch the Hellenic League title, writes Dave Wright.

Their 2-1 win at Brismscombe & Thrupp and Thame’s 2-2 draw at Lydney leaves the Robins top of the table on goal difference going into their final Premier Division fixture against Highworth this Saturday.

“We are happy to take it to the last game,”said Tallentire.

“We are home against a very good side and we will be up for the challenge.

“We have been given the chance to win the league and I am sure all the boys will be prepared to go that extra mile.”

Tallentire is pleased the title decider is on their own 3G pitch at Larges Lane as it could have been an even more difficult game had it been on a surface like the one they encountered at Brimscombe & Thrupp last weekend.

“The pitch was a real leveller,” he said after the game.

“When we are at home we like to keep the ball down and knock it about. We couldn’t do that.

“It was wet and bumpy, not conducive to playing like we want to play.

“It meant we had to show another side of our game. We had to knock long balls, dig deep and do things we are uncomfortable with.

“But it doesn’t matter how you win, it is just getting all three points and today they were good enough to put us back on top of the table.”

Tallentire added: “We were up against a team hell bent on putting a spanner in the works and so I am delighted we have come away with the win.

“But it wasn’t good for my nerves, I can tell you.”
