BRACKNELL Town manager Mark Tallentire and his players are refusing to get carried away despite the fact they are close to winning the Hellenic League title and are also still involved in three cup competitions, writes Dave Wright.

“People may be getting excited about that, but we’re not,” he said following their 6-0 win over Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday. “My players are not talking about the title as there is still some way to go.

“There’s lots of football to be played and different scenarios could still happen.”

Town lost top spot last Wednesday when Thame won 4-1 at Brackley Town Saints and they trailed their title rivals by two points going into last night’s (Tuesday) matches which saw the Robins at Ardley and Thame visiting Tuffley Rovers.

This left Bracknell with three games left – home to Longlevens this Saturday (3pm), followed by a trip to Brimscombe & Thrupp and a final home fixture with Highworth.

Thame travel to Lydney and Henley.

“It is in our own hands, we know that, but we are just focusing on our next game,” commented Tallentire.

He was, however, impressed by the manner in which they disposed of Bassett last weekend.

“They could have been a dangerous team for us, but we were quickly out of the blocks and got our noses in front with our first chance. There was no looking back from that moment on,” added the manager.

“We played well, doing the right things and I can’t give my team enough praise.”
