BRACKNELL Town manager Mark Tallentire will take his strongest possible side to minnows Westwood United for their Reading Senior Cup tie on Saturday (1.30pm ko).

Only skipper Carl Davies is missing, as he is suspended following his recent sending off against Lydney for two bookable offences.

The Hellenic League leaders were without a game last Saturday and then their fixture on Tuesday was called off in the morning with hosts Ardley United claiming they were encountering problems with their floodlights.

“That was disappointing, as it means we haven’t played since the Saturday before last, so we need to get the momentum going again against Westwood,” said Tallentire.

The Robins are also hoping to arrange a friendly for next Tuesday in a bid to get fully tuned up ahead of their clash with title rivals Flackwell Heath at Larges Lane the following Saturday.

Tallentire insists his side will not be taking Westwood lightly even though there is a wide gulf between them.

While Bracknell sit top of the Hellenic League, United lie third in Division One (the second tier) of the Thames Valley Premier League having won seven and drawn one of their nine games.

Midfielder Jamie McClurg will take over the captain’s armband from Davies as Town bid to reach the quarter-finals of a competition they are favourites to win.

The tie is to be played at the Cotswold Sports Centre in Downs Way, Tilehurst.

Binfield are also in cup action this Saturday, but facing a much tougher task – away to Newport Pagnell in the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy.

The Swans are just above mid-table in the United Counties League and are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase, where they will meet South Shields a week on Saturday.

They also boast a good record in the B&B Trophy, having reached the final five times in the last eight seasons, winning twice.

Manager Roger Herridge will be forced to make changes to the side that defeated Longlevens 5-0 in the league last Saturday with several players being cup-tied or unavailable.

“We will still have a decent side and I am sure we will give them a good game,” said Herridge.

An extra incentive for Binfield to win the tie is that the final will be against local rivals Bracknell.

Ascot United, having secured a good point in a goalless draw at Royal Wootton Bassett last Saturday, face Brimscombe & Thrupp in the league at The Racecourse Ground.

Neil Richards’ new-look side will be hoping to make it three clean sheets in a row.

Wokingham & Emmbrook, whose game with Chalfont Wasps was postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch, have a home derby with Finchampstead at Lowther Road this Saturday (3pm ko).

The Sumas are third from bottom of the table, while Finches are fourth top following their 1-0 win over Bicester Town, Jon Malone getting the goal.
