BRACKNELL Town FC won the Maidenhead Walking Football Tournament on Friday, writes Dave Wright.

This inaugural over 55 six-a-side tournament, held on the Braywick Road Astro, was organised by Windsor & Maidenhead Borough Council with all the day’s proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer.

Bracknell fielded two teams. The Red squad of David Wilkes, Dave Bell, Keith Thomas, Simon Jamison, Tony Holmes, Ian Massey, Pat Lewis and Bob Favell played well without much luck.

But there was no stopping the Blue team of Bruce Vander, Geoff Hawke, Terry Sampford, Mel Johnson, Tony Holmes, Derek Over, Dennis Fullager and Phil Cooper.

In their group games they defeated Abingdon 2-0, Maidenhead 4-0,Wiltshire Ramblers 3-0 and Wycombe Wanderers 1-0, while losing 1-0 to Portsmouth, giving them second place.

They defeated Milton Keynes 1-0 in their semi-final with Fullager getting the vital goal.

Bracknell met Portsmouth again in the final, and gained revenge for their earlier defeat.

There was no score in normal time, but Hawke scored the golden goal in extra time.

The club holds walking football sessions for over 50s at the Bagshot Road leisure centre’s outdoor 3G pitch each Wednesday at 10.15am.
