OLEG Lascenko is “100 per cent confident” that Bracknell Bees will turn things around and become more successful, writes Dave Wright.

The young Latvian-born forward scored the goal and was voted his side’s best player in Sunday’s 2-1 over-time defeat by Swindon Wildcats at The Hive.

Bees produced a hugely improved performance compared to the previous night, when they were on the end of an 11-2 walloping at EPIHL leaders Telford Tigers, a club facing a severe financial crisis this week.

“Yes, I was pleased with my goal and man-of-the-match award, but I am more happy for the team,” said Lascenko after an unlucky defeat at the hands of local rivals Swindon.

“We played quite badly yesterday for one and a half periods, but I can’t really explain what went wrong.

“But it was different tonight. We all turned up for the game and I am really happy with our performance.

“We were unlucky. We played very hard as a team and everyone gave their best and it was really tough to lose in over time.

“We had a lot of chances to be honest, but as often happens in hockey, when you don’t score they (opponents) go down and score. Tonight we had a good opportunity there and straight away they (Swindon) scored.

“It was tough to take, but if we play like this every game, I am 100 per cent certain we can pick up.”

This coming weekend sees Bees travel up to play Sheffield Steeldogs on Saturday (7.30pm) before hosting Guildford Flames at The Hive on Sunday (6pm).

Second-bottom Bracknell are looking to close an eight-point gap on Guildford.
