THE Grade Two Coral Ascot Hurdle is the feature race at Ascot during the two-day Prince's Countryside Fund Racing Weekend and Christmas Shopping Fair meeting which takes place this Friday and Saturday.

Saturday's showpiece has been won by no fewer than seven different Champion Hurdle winners in recent decades, including three recent winners of the Cheltenham showpiece – Rock on Ruby, Faugheen and Annie Power.

Run over two miles and three-and-a-half furlongs, it was also won twice by the great Baracouda, who went on to triumph in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham three times.

There are due to be six races on both days, with the Christy 1965 Chase (2.05pm) and the Gerard Bertrand Hurst Park Handicap Chase (3.15pm) also being run on Saturday.

On Friday at 2.55pm, a statue will be unveiled at the Pre-Parade Ring to celebrate HRH The Prince of Wales's 70th Birthday.

Gates open at 10.45am on both days.
