LUTHER CLAY (8-1) could fight for a version of the Welterweight world title by the end of the year, according to his promoter.

The Bracknell fighter headlines a show at the Bracknell Leisure Centre on July 8, his first fight in his hometown.

His promoter, Al Siesta, guided Mairis Briedis to a world title and into the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series, and now he believes he can guide 22-year-old Clay to the pinnacle of the sport.

He said: "I think Clay is special. He's a really really talented fighter, and I do believe the second show could be more successful than the first, because he's a really humble charismatic fighter who can really fight.

"I think I can put Luther in straight away for a WBC youth title. At the end of the year if he's still doing well, nothing stops me from bringing in the WBC youth title for him.

"I wanted Luther to fight for it this time, but I just missed it.

"He'll be fighting eight rounds in July, ten rounds in September, and then by the end of the year I want him to fight for the title.

"He knows my plans, and he knows I'm not joking. It would be nice to have the first ever WBC youth world champion from Bracknell.

"That fight would be in Bracknell."

Mr Siesta explained that he wants the July 8 show to go off with a bang in order to get Bracknell boxing fans hooked.

"I'm willing to pay a bit more to make the night better so that people want to come back." He stated.

"I want two more fight nights in Bracknell. If this is successful, I would come back to Bracknell again in September, and then again in November.

"I've got a good feeling about Bracknell, the reason being that Luther Clay is quite popular, and I'm hoping to sign another couple of fighters from the area.

"I believe he's big enough now to fight at home for the first time. Since Luther has made his debut he's had some tough fights, and he's ready for this.

"The interest is vast, loads of people are excited to see Luther."

An opponent for Clay is expected to be announced soon, along with the rest of the undercard, which already features Pink Tyson and Naylor Ball.
