BRACKNELL Athletic Club maintained their impressive start to the Southern Athletic League Division One season with second place at Crawley.

Having won their opening fixture, Bracknell were narrowly pipped to first place by the hosts by just four points.

The male team scored three individual victories as Charlie Ashdown-Taylor won the senior javelin, the club’s first success in the event, since June 2013.

Team captain Jan Drzewiecki, with a season’s best throw, took first place in the junior hammer and Peter Marlow won the B string high jump.

On the track, there were seven individual wins including three doubles.

Conor Breslin was an impressive winner of the A string 400m while his partner, Harry Digby, won the B string race.

Oliver Hall won the senior metric mile in a personal best (pb) time. His junior partner, Cameron Enser, won the junior 1500m.

Maxwell Cooper and Aaron Enser were convincing winners on their first attempt at the 3,000m steeplechase. Cooper finished with a half second margin of victory and Aaron was one and half minutes ahead of his nearest rival to seal the club’s first double since July 2005.

Peter Marlow’s victory in the junior 110m hurdles was made made possible by his partner, youth Sam Rimmer. Sam, taking second place in senior race, ran under the recognized 18 seconds.

Meanwhile, Henry Fieldsend clocked a pb in the youth 800m on his debut. Max Borgnis and Adam Dart set new pb’s in the 3,000m, while Sam Rimmer and Jonny Parker did the same in the 400m hurdles.

In the ladies section, there was a convincing double victory for Elena and Abbie Jones in the 1500m steeplechase plus junior wins for Charlotte Johnson in the 400m, Rebecca Watkins in the 200m and Clarissa Nicholls in the 1,500m by a margin of eight seconds.

Bracknell won all four of the relays.

The quartet of Imogene Cook, Rebecca Watkins, Matilda Robinson and Emma Morris finished a second clear in the 4x100m.

Then in the 4x400m relay, Charlotte Johnson, Emma Morris, Hannah McClay and Phoebe Fenwick brought the baton over the line nine seconds in front of the second team.

The last time the men had achieved the relay double was back in July 2016.Moses Tonade, Jake Hatfield, James Miller and Chris Hill beat the Crawley team by over a second in the sprint relay.

In the 4x400m relay, Harry Henson, Harry Digby, Cameron Enser and Conor Breslin won by a full second.
