ALEX Barker revealed it all became “a blur” to him after his late goal had given Bracknell Bees an unexpected but deserved 4-3 win at Guildford Flames, writes Dave Wright.

Bees had thrown away a 3-1 lead by conceding two power-play goals in the last four minutes on Saturday, only for Barker to restore the lead with just 89 seconds remaining.

The delighted 26-year-old forward recalled his moment of glory, saying: “Their (Guildford) D-man pinched down on Foordy (Matt Foord), but he managed to chip it out. Me and Scotty (Spearing) were left two on one and I managed to score, but the rest was a blur.

“It happened to be the winning goal and everyone was delighted.”

Bees had plenty to celebrate, as this was only their second win of the season and it lifted them off the foot of the table, above Manchester Phoenix.

“We deserved to win,” added Bracknell-born Barker. “We worked hard throughout, with everyone pulling together, and we’re going in the right direction.”

Bees were left short on 11 occasions after conceding a total of 30 minutes in penalties, with nearly half coming after what Barker described as “a bit of a scrum” following the end of the second period.

Skipper Foord incurred 10 minutes for unsporting conduct after expressing his thoughts to the referee, while Spearing sat beside him in the sin-bin for the first four minutes when the game resumed with Bees 3-1 ahead.

Bracknell were unable to follow up with another victory on Sunday, losing 3-1 to Basingstoke Bison, which means they are yet to win at The Hive this season.
