WOKINGHAM CC lost ground on the top two sides in the Thames Valley League Division 1 after being held to a draw by third-bottom Kew.

The Sadlers End men are 41 points adrift of leaders Stoke Green and 27 behind second-placed Chesham, both having won last weekend. And their next two fixtures are against their title rivals, with Chesham at home this Saturday and Stoke Green away a week later.

Kew, having elected to bat first, posted 246-8 in their 52 overs with Will Shaw (67) and Kamran Younas (54) the main contributors, while Paul Dewick was the visitors’ wicket taker with 4-70.

The Oaks were on 219 with their last pair at the crease at the end of their 48 overs. Stuart Parsons made an excellent 82 and Stuart Hayter (49). Younas completed a good match for the visitors by taking 4-51.

Wokingham 2nds suffered their first defeat of the season in Division 4b when losing by four runs to North Maidenhead 2nds.

They remain in pole position in the standings, but have had their lead over title-rivals Fleet cut to 14 points.

Wokingham did well to dismiss their hosts for 148 in 44.1 overs with Tony Clapham taking 3-26 and Simon Andersson 3-32.

The Oaks’ batsmen, however, didn’t find batting any easier and their innings came to an end at 144 in 40 overs with Jacob Clark remaining 24 not out. Qamar Shan (5-54) and Asif Aziz (4-22) caused most of the damage.

Wokingham will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend when they visit third-bottom Theale & Tilehurst.

In Division 6b, Wokingham 3rds slumped to a five-wicket defeat at Boyne Hill 3rds.

They were shot out for 181 in 48.2 overs before Akash Vasa, with 69 not out, steered the hosts home at 185-5 in the 40th over.

The Oaks remain third in the table on 192 points, behind Wargrave 2nd on 248 and Royal Ascot 3rds on 209.

They are home to sixth-placed Hurst 2nd this Saturday.

Wokingham 4ths extended their lead at the top of Division 8a to 19 points.

While they were hammering Newbury 2nds by seven wickets, second-placed Windsor 4ths were losing at Kew 4ths by 13 runs.

The Oaks restricted Newbury to 186-9 in 47 overs with Mohammed Ghafoor taking 4-30, before racing to victory in 36 overs thanks to Rahul Patel’s 65 not out and an unbeaten 56 from Raj Acharya, the pair featuring in a 100-run partnership.

This Saturday they visit Sonning 3rds, who are now in third place after their six-wicket win over Royal Ascot 4ths.

Wokingham 5ths lost to Wargrave 3rds by 10 runs in a mid-table clash in Division 9a. They dismissed their hosts for 182 in 42.3 overs with Hugh Doyle (4-29) and Mark James (3-43) the pick of the bowlers.

Wokingham could only make 172 in reply, which included a fine 53 from Dan Heath.

But other batsmen struggled against Andrew Hattey, who recorded excellent figures of 11-4-25-5.

Steve Levett’s men host second-placed Finchampstead 5ths this weekend.
