MORTIMER FC maintained their 100 per cent start in the Thames Valley League Premier Division with an emphatic 5-2 home victory against Hurst on Saturday.

The Villagers followed up their 6-1 thumping of Unity on the opening day with another comfortable win against a lacklustre Hurst last weekend to make it six points from a possible six.

Greg Beckett plundered four goals against basement boys Unity and he was on the scoresheet again against Hurst.

Gareth Davies, Ryan Farmer and Idris Kamara were also among the Mortimer goalscorers.

Hurst did score twice themselves including one from Matt Watson, but they came away empty handed from the Alfred Palmer Memorial Field.

The defeat left Hurst one place off the bottom after three straight losses, while Mortimer secured fourth place after back-to-back victories.

Premier Division leaders Marlow United also extended their 100 per cent record to three matches with a hard-fought 3-1 victory at Rotherfield United on Saturday.

Rotherfield got off to a blistering start and scored just three minutes in through Stuart Brown.

However, Andy Nichol equalised only four minutes later and the game looked certain to end in a draw until an explosive finish saw Marlow secure the points.

Aaron Doyle nudged them back in front in the 85th minute and then he scored again during injury time to make it three wins from three for the early pacesetters.

Woodcote Stoke Row remain hot on Marlow United’s heels in second position after a stunning 7-1 win at Taplow United on Saturday.

The highlight was a sensational five-minute hat-trick by Stoke Row substitute Toby Nowell.

Nowell stepped off the bench in place of Jonny Summers in the 65th minute.

He grabbed his first goal of the game in the 84th minute before adding another four minutes later.

And Nowell struck again less than a minute after that for what must have been the quickest treble of his career.

In fairness, Stoke Row were already cruising by that stage after Ben Rusher and Summers had both scored in the opening five minutes of the game.

Jake Dillon then notched a second-half brace with goals in the 54th and 64th minute before Nowell’s late fireworks put the icing on the cake.

Substitute Charlie Evans replied for Taplow but it was of little consolation to the home side.

Stoke Row remain just ahead of third-placed Reading YMCA on goal difference after Young Men could only draw 1-1 at Cookham Dean on Saturday.

Ryan Adams gave YMCA the lead in the 12th minute only for Rob Smith to equalise for Dean eight minutes later.

There was no separating the sides in the second half, though YMCA were forced to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men after Mark Froude was sent off for a second yellow card.

Newbury FC picked up their second win of the campaign with a narrow 1-0 home success against Highmoor Ibis Reserves.

It took a 76th minute winner from Jack Murray to secure the points for fifth-placed Newbury.

Unity are still searching for their first point of the season after losing 2-1 at Berks County FC.

Abdul Pasco was on target for Unity, but it was not to be as Berks County held on for the win.

A Joseph Danelian goal after 20 minutes proved in vain as Woodley United Reserves lost 2-1 at AFC Aldermaston.

Matty Wilkins and Martin King got the goals for Aldermaston during their comeback win.

The next round of Premier Division matches is due to take place tonight (Wednesday) before Divisions One, Two, Three, Four and Five all kick off their season this Saturday.
