The Surrey all-rounder is one of six potential debutants named in the national side for the one day international against Ireland next Friday (May 8).

The opening batsman and left-arm spinner averages more than 30 in both first class and List A cricket and has begun the season in good form, scoring 53 against Oxford MCCU and then 48 against Glamorgan in the opening round of the LV County Championship.

He also took four wickets against Essex in the first innings of their four-day contest which finishes today.

The other players who could make their debuts against Ireland are Hampshire batsman James Vince, Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings, Somerset all-rounder Lewis Gregory, Northants all-rounder David Willey and Ansari’s Surrey teammate Jason Roy.

Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan has been recalled, while the side will be captained by James Taylor – who was dismissed by Berkshire opening bowler Tom Nugent in a University game earlier this month – in place of normal skipper Eoin Morgan.

He is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
