BUSINESSES and motorists are bracing themselves for the start of a major project that will mean road closures around Wokingham for about nine months.

The 2m project by South East Water to replace water mains starts on Monday.

Station Road will be closed to through traffic for six weeks and in London Road there will be temporary two-way traffic lights for 16 weeks - with long delays expected.

Traders are reminding shoppers that it is still business as usual and Station Road can be accessed from the Wellington Road end.

The temporary Station Road closure will be between The Molly Millar and the junction of Shute End, with pedestrian, resident and business access maintained at all times.

Wokingham railway station will remain open and access will be from the western end of Station Road via the mini roundabout.

The two-way traffic lights in London Road will be between the junctions of Clay Lane and Seaford Road.

The scheme will replace 7.1km of pipes in Wokingham and is due to continue in stages until late April or early May 2013.
