A VAN driver had a narrow escape when a pole smashed through his window during a three vehicle collision.

Just before 1pm on Monday a Silver Corsa driven by a recently qualified young man collided with another car and a van on Ruscombe Road in Twyford.

The impact caused the van to flip and a pole to pierce it, missing the driver by inches.

"A six inch post came in through the driver side window. The driver was a very lucky boy," said Lee McDonald, delta crew manager of Wokingham Fire Station.

The fire fighters were at the scene for around 30 minutes.

There were no serious injuries.
