THE victim of an armed robbery says she is now terrified every time someone enters her shop.

Sima Suny works at her family-run convenience store, Barrett Food and Wine in Barrett Crescent, and was the victim of a terrifying ordeal on Monday, March 27.

Two masked men entered the store between 2.10pm and 2.20pm armed with a screwdriver to terrorise Mrs Suny before fleeing with a large amount of cash.

Mrs Suny said: “Every time the door opens in the shop now I feel scared.

“It was a horrible experience and a massive shock to us because it is such a nice area with friendly people that we are proud to call our home.

“It all seemed like a planned attack because they knew the shop layout very well. They came straight to the till and knew how to get behind the counter.

“They timed it so that no other customers were in the shop when they entered and someone was watching from outside the store. When they left they ran off in separate directions.”

Mrs Suny also explained that she and her brother tried to stop the men from getting the money but felt like she had no other option when one of the men went behind the counter and walked towards her with the screwdriver.

The police officer who attended the scene said Mrs Suny should have a few days off work but she insisted she would carry on working to stop other family members being in danger.

One of the offenders is described as a male of an average build, wearing light grey tracksuit trousers, a blue hooded top (with the hood up) which had a white emblem on the front, gloves and grey trainers.

He was also wearing a backpack on both shoulders.

The other offender is described as a male wearing grey tracksuit trousers, a black hooded-top with the hood up and grey and brown trainers.

He was carrying a beige bag that was worn over one shoulder.

It is believed one of the offenders may have been of an Asian or mixed-race ethnicity.

Investigating officer, Det Con Amy Hickman-Holden, said: “We need to identify those responsible and bring them to justice

"I am urging anyone who witnessed the incident or saw individuals matching this description in the area to please come forward.”
