A FORMER teacher at a Wokingham school has been found guilty of a 17 sex offences against children including making child pornography.

Daniel Fisher was the head of biology at The Holt school and was a teacher there when he was arrested by police in December 2013.

The police’s paedophile investigation team found explicit chat logs with children and indecent images when they searched the 35-year-old’s computer.

Fisher, of Merchants Place, Reading, was arrested on December 31, 2013, the same day police carried out the warrant at his home.

He was later charged with two counts of making child pornography and 15 counts of trying to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

Suzanne Richards, headteacher of The Holt, said: “We can confirm that Daniel Fisher was a teacher but is no longer employed by the school and has not taught here since December 2013.

“I would like to reassure our parents and the wider community that none of the offences for which he has been found guilty relate to any member of The Holt community.”

Rate My Teacher, a website that allows pupils to rate teachers based on their helpfulness, clarity and other aspects has eight ratings for Fisher.

One reads: “Good old fish face. He lives behind the Novotel in Reading if anyone’s wondering. Pop down for a cup of tea and some fun science facts.”

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sandra Tearney, from the Thames Valley Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team, said: “The jury found Fisher to have been in possession of indecent images of children and guilty of attempts to engage children in sexual activity online.

“This case is a pertinent reminder of the dangers of social media – do you know who your child is speaking to online?"

“Thames Valley Police works to pursue those who offend, to provide support to victims and to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”

After a week long trial Fisher was found guilty of the charges by a jury at Reading Crown Court on Monday, January 11. He will be sentenced at the same court on Monday, February 8.
