THE countdown has begun to this year’s Armed Forces Day.

The Bracknell organising committee is marching ahead with its plans for June 28. The event will be held at North Lake, in South Hill Park from noon to 5pm, and will be a fun-filled family day out with lots of entertainment for children.

Events will be held in the arena along with a parade by veterans and cadets with standards.

There will be a variety attractions including a barbecue and drinks tent.

Any veteran who has not applied for a Veteran’s Lapel badge should do so as soon as possible. Forms are available from Bracknell Town Council’s Brooke House offices and need to be submitted by the end of May.

Cllr Chas Baily, from Bracknell Town Council, said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to do two things. Firstly, to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

“Secondly, it gives the nation an opportunity to show support for the

men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from serving troops

to service families and from veterans to cadets.”

The year 2014 is particularly special for the Armed Forces because June marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and August the centenary of the start of the First World War.
