Nic Hoskins, 31, also known by his stage name Flava, has written and recorded the song Ten/10 You Were My Best Friend in a tribute to his father John, who died in October after battling cancer for several years.

The Church Road resident, who also works as a sales adviser at Hugo Boss in Reading, said he wrote the song while on holiday in Tenerife, where he said he went to think about things and clear his head.

He said: “This song was probably the hardest thing I have had to do. I write all my own material and everything is done by me – everything in the song is all memories of mine that I have got of my dad.

“It was a bit difficult, don’t get me wrong, and I did have to ask myself a couple of times just if this was what I really wanted. My dad had been fighting cancer for quite a while – it started in his lungs before spreading all over his body.

“My family and friends have been amazing to me and have supported me really, really well. All of my music comes from my heart and everyone has been saying that this is my best song to date. This one obviously has a lot more meaning to me and I have got quite upset recording it but I am glad I could do something positive.” Mr Hoskins has released several songs, including Life Is A Rollercoaster, which has received more than 250,000 views on YouTube.

The song will be released on Friday, January 23, across several download platforms, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and Google Play.
