It has been confirmed by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) that they, along with Bracknell Forest Council, can finally begin construction work on the multi-million pound project.

Helen Barnett, head of communications at BRP, said: “This is a big day for Bracknell. We are convinced that, with the quality of occupiers that have already committed and others that we expect to sign shortly, the regeneration of Bracknell town centre will be a major success and act as a catalyst for further investment in the town.

“We would like to thank Bracknell Forest Council and its officers and elected members in particular for all their help in bringing the regeneration project to a reality.” Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: “While the behind the scenes legal work might sound dull, it is a hugely necessary and important step in our town’s future as it means that the construction work can now start.

"In just a few weeks’ time residents and visitors will see construction machines on-site, starting the preparation for foundations to be laid and steel work to start.

“We have been determined to get our residents the town they want and need and so we have supported the project whole-heartedly, working with the developer on a daily basis to ensure it actually happens. We will continue to support the project throughout the construction of the new town centre and beyond.” A host of retailers have already signed up to the project, including a new 80,000 sq ft Fenwick department store, with major brands Marks & Spencer, Primark and H&M joining it.

Eight restaurants - Carluccio's, Zizzi, Coast to Coast, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Pizza Express, Nando's and Las Iguanas - have already confirmed their committment to the scheme, as well as a new 12-screen Cineworld cinema.

All in all, the new town centre will comprise 580,000 sq ft of new retail and leisure space, which will be supported by a 1,300-space multi-storey car park.

The former 3M building, officially known as Winchester House, is also in the process of being demolished.

It will be replaced by 311 flats, a café, shops and leisure facilities.
