Amber Hill, 17, has passed her driving test at the first time of asking and hopes her new-found freedom will allow her to attend more training sessions and help her become better prepared in the run-up to next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The youngest-ever winner of a senior World Cup and the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2013, Amber currently trains three times a week but now she doesn’t have to rely on her parents for lifts anymore she believes it will help boost her performance in competitions.

She said: “Learning to drive has really helped my parents out and take some of the pressure off them. I was constantly relying on them to take me to training and I feel it’s a lot to ask as it’s a half-an-hour drive to the shooting range and a three-hour drive to Matlock where my coach lives. If I could drive myself around I would definitely train more, which would be great for improving my competition performance, especially in the lead-up to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“My parents are completely supportive of what I do and I will definitely give them lifts to repay them for everything they’ve done for me!”
