Andrew Valentine Morris OBE, from Wokingham, will soon be addressed as Sir Andrew after it was announced he has been awarded a knighthood by the Queen for his services to the NHS.

Three other local people have also made the list - including Jane Gates, founder and chief executive of Sebastian's Action Trust who has been recognised for her work helping seriously ill children and their families and made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Broadmoor nurse Winston Anthony McDowell has also been awarded an OBE for services to mental health while National Trust volunteer Dr Patrick Alfred Morris, from Ascot, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the natural and historic environment.

Here at the News we would like to congratulate everyone who has been recognised for their achievements and great contributions to charity, health and the environment.

See the Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot News, out next Wednesday for more details about each recipient.
