Recent changes to the law on December 10 mean that anyone who had previously registered a civil partnership in England or Wales can have it legally converted to a marriage.

Couples can either choose to have a standard conversion or have the conversion followed by a ceremony.

The standard service is free for those who entered a civil partnership before March 29 this year and convert it before December 10 next year.

Cllr Iain McCracken, Bracknell Forest Council’s executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection, said: “If you need any advice on the process then please do get in contact with our ceremonies team.

“The team can offer advice on the legal conversion side as well as information on where ceremonies can be held for those who wish to make their conversion into a real celebration.” So far, throughout December, 12 couples have converted their civil partnerships into marriages.

Anyone looking to convert their civil partnership to a marriage should contact the council’s ceremonies team on 01344 352004 or email registrars@bracknell-forest.gov.uk
