The contingency crew battled the car blaze in London Road while their full-time colleagues were on strike.
The firefighters were called to the incident at about 4.20pm today, where the car was well alight.
Crews spent about 30 minutes battling the fire with a hose reel before putting it out. No-one was injured as a result of the fire.
