A Family Fun Day on Sunday raised £609 and an auction is planned to raise further cash.

The three-hour event was organised by Anna Bing and Shelley Keefe at Jennett’s Park Community Centre in Tawney Owl Square.

Mrs Bing said: “It was a wonderful day that exceeded our expectations because we would have been happy to make £200.

“More than 200 people turned up and we made more than £600.” Mrs Bing said that, apart from tombolas, a barbecue, home-made cake stalls and a fancy dress contest, there were costumed appearances from Peppa Pig and Spiderman.

She said that an auction, run by professional auctioneers, will be held at the Peacock Farm pub in Peacock Lane, Binfield, on Saturday, November 22 from 7.30pm.

Mrs Bing said ‘beautiful gifts’ had been donated by local businesses and individuals.

She added: “What with the coming auction and our ‘justgiving’ site, we hope to top our target of £2,000.

“The money will help to make the premature baby unit really top notch, with the best possible equipment.” Both organisers have reason to be grateful to the Frimley Park Hospital special care baby unit.

Mrs Keefe’s son, Harrison, was born there after a 33-week pregnancy, weighing 4lb 14oz, and Mrs Bing’s son, Jacques, was born in June, weighing 5lb 9oz after a 33-week pregnancy.
