Sebastian’s Action Trust – which supports youngsters with life-limiting conditions – organised its first Swinley Forest Run, with a choice of 5km or 10km routes to run or walk.

Some 350 people took part in the event, which started and finished at The Look Out.

Among the runners were a team of 31 running in memory of Hollie Oxenham, from Easthampstead, whose family was supported by Sebastian’s Action Trust. Hollie died from cancer earlier this year, aged five – days after she won the Child of Courage category at the Pride of Bracknell Awards.

The team comprised family members, friends and staff from Bracknell and Wokingham College and raised £3,000, helping the Trust raise a grand total of more than £10,000.

Hollie’s mother Louise, who works at the college and took part in the run, said: “It was a fantastic day. I want to do it all over again next year.

“I would like to thank The Team Hollie for organising this event in memory of our beautiful little girl and for raising such a massive amount for a charity that couldn’t deserve it more.” College marketing manager Jane Chapman added: “It was a fantastic way to celebrate and remember Hollie’s life and support the wonderful Sebastian’s Action Trust. Hollie was an amazing, inspirational little girl.” Sebastian’s Action Trust, which was set up in memory of Ascot boy Sebastian Gates, who died of a tumour in 2003, supports families in Berkshire and neighbouring counties and has a holiday home, The Bluebells, in north Hampshire.

The run was officially opened by Olympic bronze judo medallist Karina Bryant, who thanked all the participants and said: “Having visited The Bluebells last month, I have seen at first-hand how your money will support and benefit local families with seriously ill children.

“We hope that you will join us again next year for our second annual run.”
