Residents asked to help back Sport Relief effort in Bracknell

Published: 12 Mar 2014 09:150 comments

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to follow in the footsteps of celebrities by taking on this year’s Bracknell Mile for Sport Relief.

Bracknell Leisure Centre will host this year’s running event on Sunday, March 23,

where people are being challenged to walk or jog for either one, three or six miles.

If running does not take your fancy then a swim is also taking place at the leisure centre between Friday, March 21, and Sunday, March 23, where residents can choose to swim either 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km. By doing your bit for Sport Relief, you will follow the example of celebrities such as TV presenter Davina McCall, who ran, swam and cycled 500 miles over seven days last month to raise nearly £1m for the charity, including swimming across a freezing Lake Windermere, climbing a snow-covered Scafell Pike and finishing with a full marathon in London.

Caroline Lasenby, organiser of the Bracknell Sport Relief event, said: “We are delighted so many people have already signed up but we want even more people in Bracknell to take part and make it the best Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile yet.

“So let’s show the rest of the country what we can do in our pools or out on our athletics track to raise as much money as possible!”

This year’s Bracknell Mile will take place at the leisure centre’s swimming pool for the swimming challenge or the centre’s running track for the running mile.

The run around the track at Bracknell Leisure Centre costs £6 for adults, £3 for children aged under 16 and £15 for a family of four (two adults and two children).

The swim costs £11 or £6 for concessions, or teams consisting of two-five people costs £25 or £20 if made up of people entitled to concession rates. To enter, visit www.sportrelief.com

Sport Relief is a national charity helping vulnerable people in the UK and abroad.
