BRACKNELL Leisure Centre’s pools will celebrate 40 years of fantastic swimming facilities later this month.

The three pools - learner, training and competition - were opened on December 7, 1973, by Sir Roger Bannister, the first athlete to run a mile in less than four minutes.

More than six million people have used the pools for recreational swimming and thousands more have used the pools to learn to swim or gain essential water skills.

Anyone visiting between December 7 and 22 can take a dip for just 40p by producing a voucher from our sister paper the Bracknell Midweek.

Gareth Jones, manager of Bracknell Leisure Centre, said: “Our swimming pools provide residents of Bracknell and the surrounding areas a low-impact way to keep in shape and socialise. Here’s to another 40 years of our pools.”
