A DIAMOND couple beamed in the sunshine as they marked their wedding anniversary 60 years on from their snowy Big Day.

Grandparents Roger and Joan White, from Martin's Heron, celebrated the milestone two days earlier on Tuesday, March 27, with fellow members of the Woodlands Bowling Club at Forest Park Community Centre.

Mrs White, 82, said: "It was a surprise for us and they had made a lovely sponge cake." The couple also enjoyed a family party on Saturday at Stirrups Country House Hotel in Maiden Green.

Mr and Mrs White were married at St Thomas' Church in Hanwell, London, surrounded by snow on March 29, 1952. They honeymooned in Bournemouth for a week.

Mrs White said: "There was lots of snow on our wedding day! I had to be carried from the church to the car, the weather was so awful!" The couple met just after the Second World War in 1946, when they both worked for engineering company Sperry Gyroscope, which was based in Bracknell.

They have one daughter, Deborah Bates and two grandchildren Tom ,15, and Sam, 12.

And their secret to a long and happy marriage?

"I just don't know where it has gone; we have always been active, it is just give and take," said Mrs White.

Mr White, 83, added: "I give and she takes!"
