A RECORD number of classic car enthusiasts turned up to the 13th annual Volkswagen display show on Sunday, raising £5,000 for charity.

Dubs at the Park, which took place in Easthampstead Park’s grounds, attracted around 5,000 people, who enjoyed entertainment such as a free bouncy castle, traditional Punch and Judy, and colouring competitions – prizes for which were donated by Legoland and the Look Out Discovery Centre.

The Lloyds Legacy Brains Trust, the Riverside Animal Centre in Beddington Park in Wallington, Surrey, and Strathaven Asthmatic Relief Action, a Reading-based charity, all received £1,500 each, and a further £500 went to Zak!Charity for children.

The team of Stormtroopers who entertained crowds on the day were also able to donate £1,000 to a charity of their choice.

The event’s main organisers, Louise and David Higgs, offered their thanks to those who supported the show and arrived at the venue in their Volkswagens.

They also thanked Slough Swapmeet, a tabletop sale for VW enthusiasts, and the team at Easthampstead Park who allowed the use of their grounds and facilities.

Next year’s show will take place on Sunday, May 14.
