MOTORISTS will face a six mile diversion as a culvert months away from collapse has forced a road closure.

The drainage system running under Winkfield Road is deteriorating quickly and won't survive another winter.

Winkfield Road will be shut between Squirrel Roundabout, the junction with North Street, and the Legoland Roundabout from Tuesday, November 3, for essential repairs to the culvert's retaining walls.

The road will be closed until Saturday November 21, for the work to be carried out. The road will then have temporary traffic signals for three weeks as the maintenance is finished.

Cllr Chris Turrell, Bracknell Forest Council’s executive member for planning and transport said: “The work on the culvert is necessary as its condition is deteriorating. We don't believe it would withstand another winter. To delay further would be irresponsible, and we would be failing in our duties as the highway authority.

"We are very aware that the road closure will be disruptive, and we will work to lessen the impact on drivers and residents where possible.

"We thank drivers and residents in advance for their patience during these essential works."

The six mile diversion will send drivers along the B383 Mounts Hill, A332 Sheet Street Road, Kings Road, A308 Osborne Road, Goslar Way, B3173 Imperial Road and B3022 Winkfield Road, or via this route reversed.
