Sometime between 7.30am and 6pm offenders broke into a home on Winkfield Row, Bracknell Forest through the rear window.

Once inside they ransacked the property before making off with jewellery, cash and a camera. They left through the front door. Police are asking residents to ensure that they are correctly locking their uPVC front doors.

They say: " It is important for members of the public to be aware that in order for the door to be fully locked, and therefore fully secured, they must lock the door from the inside using the key."

Shutting the door and pulling the handle up does not fully lock most of these doors, even though it may appear so from the outside. It is easy to gain entry through these types of door if they are not locked with a key.

Please remember to these three key actions in order to make sure you are fully secured and protected: 1. Pull the handle up to engage the locking mechanisms 2. Use the key to lock the door from the inside and check that the door does not open from the inside by pulling firmly on the handle 3. Remove the key from the door keeping it in a secure location; within easy access should you need to exit the property in an emergency but out of sight/access from the door itself.

Anyone with information about this burglary should contact Det Sgt Marc Skinner, from Bracknell Forest police station via the non emergency 101 police enquiry centre.
