A TEAM of foster carers are taking on a colossal kayaking challenge this month.

Paul Adams from the Power of Parenting team, along with three of his children and his wife, will be kayaking 73 miles to raise money and awareness for foster parenting.

Their hope is to raise enough to provide a bursary for a foster child to go to university.

The team will start on Saturday August 26 in Oxford, before kayaking for hours on end, finishing in Windsor three days later.

Mr Adams, from Ascot, has been a foster parent for a number of years, and tries to participate in as many fundraising events as possible.

He said: "We are a registered charity that cares for foster children going through to university.

"There isn't enough foster parents, and there are too many foster children.

"I have been around children and helping children for a long time, I was in the police service for a long time, I have always supported young people.

"My wife is in the boat with me, and three of the children will be doing it as well.

"We have been foster parents for five years, it's a team effort with my kids and my family.

"We all do it as a team, you cannot have a foster child in your home if you do not have your children being supportive.

"We should be in a position to be able to give away our first foster bursary, it isn't about paying their entire tuition fee, but about helping."
