A SUMMER fete with pony rides and a bouncy castle raised funds for a young girl with a chronic illness.
When Berie Howard was three she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes following months of illness including infections, mouth ulcers and hair loss.
Two years later and Berie’s parents decided to hold a party in their garden to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF).
A delicious spread
Attractions included dance classes, face painting, hair cuts, crafts and a raffle, as well as an old fashioned sweet stall, bake sale and barbecue.
Mum Amy Howard said: “Incredibly so many local suppliers volunteered their time and offered children’s sessions throughout the day.
“These included Mad Academy Wokingham, a music and dance class, Ascot based Little Muddy Boots, a garden and nature club, Pranic Healing UK who came and offered free taster sessions to help the parents unwind.
"Warfield based Mata Recycled who offered free Art and Craft sessions, Tropic Skin Care hosted a raffle and Bennetto’s catering did the delicious BBQ.
“It was an absolutely incredible day, which made a staggering £1,500 towards JDRF. A day so good, in Berie’s words it was ‘worth having diabetes for!’
The little ones got to plod around on a pony
“The more money we can raise for JDRF, the quicker the cure. And I think I speak on behalf of all diabetics and their families when I say it couldn’t come a day too soon.”
JDRF is the ‘world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research.
Its aim to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, stop it developing and try and cure people who already have the condition.’
