AN ASCOT man has been jailed for the attempted stabbing of a man, after the pair were embroiled in an argument in the street.
Christopher Byrne, 46, of Brockenhurst Road, South Ascot, was yesterday (Friday, October 23), sentenced to 20 months in prison at Reading Crown Court, after pleading guilty to one count of GBH.
The court heard how Byrne became involved in an argument with the victim, a 30-year-old man, in Brockenhurst Road, at around 5pm on Wednesday, May 13.
During the incident, he attempted to stab the victim though he was unharmed apart from suffering cuts and bruising to his hands during the attack.
Police officers rushed to the scene where Byrne was arrested.
Investigating officer, Det Con Ross Fleming of Berkshire Force CID, said: “The victim managed to defend himself during the attack and luckily he did not sustain any major injuries.
"This was an extremely shocking experience for the victim and I hope he is satisfied that Byrne will now spend 20 months in jail.
“The offence happened in the street and during a very busy time of day when people were coming home from work. I hope the sentence handed down to Byrne reassures members of the public that such violence will not be tolerated by Thames Valley Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and the courts.”
